Football gives you the widest menu in sports betting and the quickest way to bet on something you do not understand. A single match can carry dozens of markets, from the plain result to the number of cards. This page explains the core ones in ordinary language. We did not record the sportsbook menu when we checked BDBAJEE on 7 November 2026, so confirm it yourself on its own site or app.
The match result market
The 1X2 market is the classic: one for the home side, X for the draw, two for the away side. It settles on the result after normal time, usually including stoppage time but not extra time or penalties. That last point catches people out in cup games, where a team can go through and your bet still loses.
Because a draw is a real option, the prices are lower for each side than you would see in a two-way sport. Read the rules line before you stake, especially in knockout fixtures.
Goals markets
Over and under goals asks whether the total lands above or below a line, often 2.5. Both teams to score asks only whether each side finds the net. These are popular because you do not need to pick a winner, but a nil-nil still loses an over bet in seconds.
Team totals and first goalscorer markets sit alongside. Scorer markets carry bigger margins, so the price you see is worse than it looks.
Handicaps and double chance
A handicap adds or removes goals from a side before the match starts, to even up a mismatch. Double chance covers two of the three results in one bet, for example home or draw, at a shorter price. Asian handicap lines, if the book offers them, can split a stake across two lines, so check how a half-win is paid.
- Handicap: a head start applied on paper.
- Double chance: two results covered, shorter odds.
- Draw no bet: stake returned if the match is drawn.
Picking sensible bets
Stick to leagues you actually watch. Teams rest players, change managers and play weak sides in cup ties, and none of that appears in the headline price. Compare how the market looks with what you know, not with what a social post claims.
Our overview on sports betting covers slips and accumulators, and our page on betting odds shows how to turn a price into a probability. Fans who like in-play bets should read live betting first.
Ending a match on your own terms
Final whistles are a good moment to stop. If you are tempted to put on one more bet to win back a loss, close the app. A fixed budget protects you better than any system.
