Andar Bahar: How the Joker Card Decides the Round
Quick Summary
- One card, called the joker, is turned up and you bet on Andar or Bahar.
- Cards are dealt to each side alternately until one matches the joker.
- The two sides are not exactly even; the first card dealt often matters in the rules.

Andar Bahar is among the oldest card games still played in South Asian homes, and the live casino version keeps it almost unchanged. One card is turned up, and everything hangs on where its twin lands. This guide is independent and not run by BDBAJEE. We could not confirm the game in its lobby on 7 November 2026, so check the live section yourself.
How a round works
The dealer turns one card face up. This is the joker, or the reference card. Players bet on whether the matching rank will first appear on the Andar side or the Bahar side. Cards are then dealt one at a time, alternately, to each side. The first card that matches the rank of the joker decides the round.
Why it is not quite even
Because the dealing starts on one side, that side has a small edge or a different payout in most casino versions. Common versions pay even money on one side and a reduced payout on the other, so the house edge comes from the payout difference. The rules panel tells you which side pays what. We do not state payouts, since tables differ.
Side bets exist too: the number of cards needed to hit the match, or which of the first cards will match. They pay more and cost more.
Reading the table
A table shows the history of results in a row of dots, just like baccarat. A run of Andar results looks like momentum. It is not. The shoe is shuffled and each round begins from scratch. Pretending otherwise will not change the result, but it will change how much you bet.
It also helps to know that rounds are short. The deal takes a few seconds, and the next joker is on screen almost at once.
A sensible approach
Pick a side for no reason other than preference, keep the stake flat, and avoid chasing losses by increasing it. The game's easy rhythm is its hazard: you can place many bets in an hour. For other quick card games, try Dragon Tiger or Teen Patti, and see the live casino hub for the section overview. Our article on the Andar Bahar joker goes into the joker mechanics.
